This summer, join the Ceasar and Oliver families for a magical evening of live music, comedy, and festive cheer at ”It’s Family! It’s Festive!”, an outdoor picnic experience at the Baxter Theatre Garden on Sunday 29 December. Starting at 5:30 PM, this one-of-a-kind event brings together jazz legend Richard Ceasar, his talented children Maxine and Vaughan Ceasar, and comedian Dalin Oliver for an unforgettable family-friendly show.

For the first time, Richard Ceasar—renowned for his 40+ years in the music industry—will share the stage with his son Vaughan, a gifted guitarist and vocalist, and his daughter Maxine, whose soulful voice has captivated audiences worldwide. Bringing humour to the mix is Maxine’s husband, Dalin Oliver, one of South Africa’s leading comedians. This family of stars will deliver a show full of music, laughter, and heartfelt moments.

”It’s Family! It’s Festive!” is an event that promises to delight audiences of all ages, offering a beautiful combination of jazz, smooth vocals, and stand-up comedy. Whether you’re a fan of timeless jazz or contemporary tunes, or simply looking for good, clean humour, this event will bring the joy of the festive season to life.

“It’s a privilege to perform alongside my children and Dalin,” says Richard Ceasar. “Music has always been a part of our family and combining it with Dalin’s comedy makes it even more special. We can’t wait to share the stage and create memories with the audience.”

Maxine adds, “There’s something magical about a family coming together to perform. It’s going to be a day filled with surprises, laughter, and love. We want people to feel like they’re part of our family for the evening.”

The Baxter Theatre Garden, with its outdoor setting, provides the perfect backdrop for a sunset picnic. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own picnic baskets, blankets, and chairs, or purchase limited items on-site. Alcoholic beverages can be bought from the venue’s bar.

Seating: Unreserved, first come first served. Blankets and camp chairs are welcome, with seating arranged to ensure everyone has a great view.

As Cape Town gears up for the bustling festive season, the city transforms into a vibrant playground for both locals and tourists. With its iconic beaches, the majestic Table Mountain, and the ever-popular Kaapse Klopse Minstrel Parades to ring in the New Year, The Mother City becomes the heart of the celebration. This year, the festive cheer gets even brighter with the much-anticipated musical revue, JOLTYD   – Through the Ages of Music, which takes centre stage at the Pam Golding Theatre, Baxter, from 29 November 2024 until 3 January 2025.

JOLTYD captures the true essence of Cape Town’s festive spirit—full of warmth, humour, and nostalgic tunes. From the electric rock ‘n’ roll of the ‘50s, the smooth Motown grooves, to the local flair of The Rockets and Mafikizolo, this show has something for everyone. It’s a heartwarming journey that brings families and friends together as they celebrate the joyous spirit of the season.

The stellar cast includes celebrated talents Jarrad Ricketts, Loukmaan Adams, Kashifa Blouw, Xolisa Tom, and the ever-entertaining Mel Jones. Joining them is Tashreeq de Villiers, alongside a standout house band led by musical director Charlton Daniels.

Producer Loukmaan Adams shares what it means to create a show for this special time of year: “It’s a dream come true to be doing this at the Pam Golding Theatre during the festive season. It’s overwhelming, exciting, and such a massive opportunity to bring something this big to life.”

The show promises to take audiences on a journey through decades of musical history. Adams elaborates: “It’s not just about covers—it’s about moments. The song you heard when you were 14, the track that played when South Africa won the African Cup of Nations, or the tune that defined your New Year’s Eve.”

Co-director Basil Appollis shared his enthusiasm: “Cape Town becomes the festive hub at this time of year. There’s an energy—it’s almost like a drug. The entertainment has to be as exciting as what the beach and mountain offer, and with JOLTYD, we’ve created something that matches that magic.”

Appollis also highlights what makes his collaboration with Adams special: “Loukmaan is a creative powerhouse, able to step into any role the director asks of him. His creativity has no limits, and that’s what makes this production a must-see.”

Musical director Charlton Daniels adds: “This show is about more than just music—it’s about emotion, memory, and connection. We’re taking people on a musical journey through time, bringing every era alive with sound, light, and performance.”

The production will also feature dynamic choreography from Grant van Steer, complemented by cutting-edge projection and 3D mapping to take the storytelling to the next level.

JOLTYD – Through the Ages of Music is more than just a musical revue—it’s a celebration of Cape Town’s festive culture. With its blend of nostalgia, laughter, and unforgettable tunes, audiences are promised a night they won’t forget. Whether you’re swaying to the sounds of Elvis Presley, soaking in the smooth melodies of Frank Sinatra, or grooving to Mafikizolo, you’ll leave the theatre with your heart full, and your spirits lifted.

WGRUV is set to enchant audiences with its 3rd Season of 2024, presenting “Trilogy of Notes,” a triple bill that promises to deliver class, culture, and breathtaking musical landscapes. The company, known for its innovative and captivating dance performances, aims to create hope through soulful artistic storytelling, and this season is no exception.

Opening on Thursday 17 October in Cape Town, WGRUV’s “Trilogy of Notes” will be at the Star Theatre, Homecoming Centre for three dance performances including two evening shows and a 3pm matinee on Saturday, 19 October. Thereafter the performances will be in Gauteng, on stage at the Atterbury Theatre, Pretoria on Wednesday 6 November and Thursday, 7 November at 7pm followed by performances at the Roodepoort Theatre from Wednesday, 20 November to Friday, 22 November at 7pm and 3pm Saturday, 23 November. The season ends at the Lesedi Theatre. Joburg Theatre with 7pm performances on Wednesday, 04 December; Thursday, 05 December and Friday, 06 December.

Opening the program is a premiere of a restaging of “Vivace Motifs,” choreographed by the renowned American choreographer Jessica Lang. Lang’s work, celebrated for its visual beauty and emotional depth, will set the stage for an evening filled with elegance and artistic expression.

The second piece, “Permission to Fall,” an original creation by chorographic artist and Doug Varone dancer, Brad Beakes joined WGRUV in residency for 2 weeks creating with the dancers, this contemporary narrative which invites reflection on its evocative themes, providing a rich, contemplative experience to music by Ryan Lot and Ymusic.

The evening will culminate as we arrive in the 1950’s era with a dynamic piece by former Paul Taylor dancer and creator, Michael Trusnovec. This original work will feature live musician Emmanuel Paul playing the Bass notes! While Michael’s dance performance work has been likened to the timeless charm of Fred Astaire by dance magazine, only select works allow a glimpse into this impact as the WGRUV dancers emulate the free and smooth lines he models. Featuring the music of June Christy, Trusnovec’s work promises to transport audiences to a space of pure delight for a romantic date or artistic family outing not to disappoint.

Adding to the excitement, WGRUV is collaborating with Joburg Ballet this season, welcoming Marlon Sales to the stage. Additionally, the company proudly introduces its newest member, Ruan Galdino, whose talents are set to shine in this stellar lineup alongside WGRUV’s talented and soul-filled dancers.

WGRUV is set to enchant audiences with its 3rd Season of 2024, presenting “Trilogy of Notes,” a triple bill that promises to deliver class, culture, and breathtaking musical landscapes. The company, known for its innovative and captivating dance performances, aims to create hope through soulful artistic storytelling, and this season is no exception.

Opening on Thursday 17 October in Cape Town, WGRUV’s “Trilogy of Notes” will be at the Star Theatre, Homecoming Centre for three dance performances including two evening shows and a 3pm matinee on Saturday, 19 October. Thereafter the performances will be in Gauteng, on stage at the Atterbury Theatre, Pretoria on Wednesday 6 November and Thursday, 7 November at 7pm followed by performances at the Roodepoort Theatre from Wednesday, 20 November to Friday, 22 November at 7pm and 3pm Saturday, 23 November. The season ends at the Lesedi Theatre. Joburg Theatre with 7pm performances on Wednesday, 04 December; Thursday, 05 December and Friday, 06 December.

Opening the program is a premiere of a restaging of “Vivace Motifs,” choreographed by the renowned American choreographer Jessica Lang. Lang’s work, celebrated for its visual beauty and emotional depth, will set the stage for an evening filled with elegance and artistic expression.

The second piece, “Permission to Fall,” an original creation by chorographic artist and Doug Varone dancer, Brad Beakes joined WGRUV in residency for 2 weeks creating with the dancers, this contemporary narrative which invites reflection on its evocative themes, providing a rich, contemplative experience to music by Ryan Lot and Ymusic.

The evening will culminate as we arrive in the 1950’s era with a dynamic piece by former Paul Taylor dancer and creator, Michael Trusnovec. This original work will feature live musician Emmanuel Paul playing the Bass notes! While Michael’s dance performance work has been likened to the timeless charm of Fred Astaire by dance magazine, only select works allow a glimpse into this impact as the WGRUV dancers emulate the free and smooth lines he models. Featuring the music of June Christy, Trusnovec’s work promises to transport audiences to a space of pure delight for a romantic date or artistic family outing not to disappoint.

Adding to the excitement, WGRUV is collaborating with Joburg Ballet this season, welcoming Marlon Sales to the stage. Additionally, the company proudly introduces its newest member, Ruan Galdino, whose talents are set to shine in this stellar lineup alongside WGRUV’s talented and soul-filled dancers.

All his life, Evan Hansen has felt invisible. But when a tragic event shocks him and his community, this socially anxious awkward high school student becomes the centre of a rapidly evolving controversy and resulting spiralling complex situation. Presented with the opportunity of a lifetime, to finally “belong”, Evan inadvertently grabs the chance to create an important role for himself by not telling the whole truth. He transforms from a “nobody” to the central figure in a heartbreaking drama that explores adult themes of mental health, loneliness, and the human need for connection. As the truth evolves, Evan faces his web of lies and how everyone around him has been affected.
